Dragsvik

 


Today my fourth post is dedicated to Dragsvik, Finnish synth-punk band of four people coming from different bands in the underground hardcore scene. A band who is not afraid of speaking out, as their songs are deeply characterised by strong lyrics going from social injustice, racism, poverty and class struggle , and just four weeks ago they released their third album, "Kapital". An album of eight tracks in which in some songs the band continues the aggressive post-punk formula of their previous two ones, but on some other songs they explore new territories, like for example in the 80s disco pop hit  "Kontrolli".

My favourite songs are the last three ones: the slow dark funeral of "Meitä ei ole liikaa" ("there are not too many of us", then "Euforia", a song about breaking binary barriers, that reminds me "The Academy Fight Song" from the legendary Mission Of Burma, and "Solidaarisuudesta" (About Solidarity), an amazing protest song, the perfect closure of the album.

    Today the fifth post is always dedicated to post-punk and it goes straight to Iceland, the land of glaciers, geysers and breath-taking landscapes but also a land where, despite the small population, underground scenes, labels and bands are emerging. One of these bands is Börn ( "children" in Icelandic) , a band of three girls and a guy formed in 2011 first as a duo with Alexandra at the vocals and Fannar at the drums then as a quartet with the adding of Anna at the guitar and Juliana (from the hardcore band Tentacles) at the bass. Originally the name was Norn ("Witch") but then they changed it to Börn in order to avoid conflict with a local black metal band with the same name, and in 2014 they released their first self titled album gaining a lot of influence not only in the local scene but also in Europe and even in the USA, where the band toured during April and May 2014, an album of seven tracks strongly influenced by the Californian death rock scene and chara...

Aluk Todolo

  Today my third post of this blog is dedicated to Aluk Todolo, instrumental psychedelic French trio with 20 years of activities. Formed in Grenoble in 2004, their first three releases ( the self-titled in EP and their first two albums, Obedience and Finsternis ) were characterised by extremely raw jam session with a lo-fi production, like early black metal but played by Hawkwind. After recording a collaboration album with the Austrian band Der Blutharsch, in 2012 the trio released their maturation album, which is Occult Rock. Occult Rock is not only the name the album, but it's the also the name of the style by which the band define itself. The album is made of eight long instrumental tracks in a perfect combination of black metal, punk, space-rock, surf rock and post-rock.
